Here's the info for any parents wanting to know more about the cub scout outing to the Mississienwa 1812 re-enactment.
Event website: http://www.mississinewa1812.com/
- We will meet up at Church at 8:30am on Saturday, Oct 9th.
- We will work out car pool if needed / desired right before we leave. All kids will need a parent, but this is a great event for the whole family, so siblings are welcome!
- Convoy travel to Mississinewa (6000 N 300 W27, La Fontaine, IN 46940) will take a little over an hour.
- Admission: $7 per adult, $4 per child ages 6-12. Each person will be required to pay their own admission.
We'll walk around the camp as a group, looking at the different camps and exhibits up until the first battle re-enactment at noon. We'll head to the battlefield around 11:30 or so, just so we can get good seats on the grass right up front. After the re-enactment is over, families are welcome to split off and go look around on their own, eat lunch, etc. or continue along with the group. There are a decent number of food vendors there, though I don't see anything on their site about not being able to bring your own food. Worst case, you can return to your car to eat.
After the re-enactment, folks can leave whenever they are ready. (again, we'll work out carpool and leaving times at the church before we start so no one is left behind.)
The last time we went, it got quite warm, so check the weather and dress appropriately, probably in layers. It's not a short walk back to the parking lot, so you won't want to run back and forth if you can help it.
Tigers will be using this as a requirement for our first Go See It, and we'll talk some about how families lived in the early 19th century. We'll also talk about the battle after the re-enactment.
